Majors Matt & Jamie Satterlee
Majors Matt & Jamie Satterlee are the Territorial Youth Secretaries of The Salvation Army Southern Territory. The Satterlee’s have years of experience in corps work and youth ministry. They were the Divisional Youth Leaders in both the Georgia Division and the Florida Division. They served for three years at National Headquarters and then for the past 3 years at Territorial Headquarters in Atlanta.
Major Matt Satterlee is the son of Salvation Army officers going back at least 4 generations. He was born in West Virginia and met the Lord at the age of 7 on an altar in the Frederick, Maryland corps. Moving around with his parents and growing in his faith for many years, he was accepted on a Salvationist Service Corps trip in the summer of 2002 to minister in Argentina and Paraguay. It was there, in the back hallway of the corps in Asuncion, Paraguay, that the Lord called him to be a Salvation Army Officer.
Major Jamie Satterlee, also an Officer’s kid, grew up in the great state of Texas. Despite being raised in the corps, it wasn’t until Youth Camp at Camp Hoblitzelle in the summer of 1999 that she fully surrendered her life to the Lord. Like Matt, in the summer of 2002, she had the opportunity to go on a Salvationist Service Corps trip to Chile. It was here that God confirmed her calling to the ministry of The Salvation Army.
The Satterlees were married later that year in Lubbock, Texas. They entered the Training School in 2004 as part of the Visionaries session. They were commissioned to the Portsmouth, VA Corps as Corps Officers where their family grew with the addition of daughters Lillian and Susannah. Following that, they served as the Corps Officers in Fredericksburg, VA before being appointed as the Divisional Youth Leaders in the Georgia, and later Florida, Divisions.
Studies show that nearly half of all Christians say they accepted Christ before the age of 13. Major Matt Satterlee says, “If we are called to make other’s salvation the first purpose of our lives, we should be exhausting ourselves in youth ministry.” Having come to Territorial Headquarters following 10 years of ministry to young people, the Satterlees are passionate about the discipleship of young people.
